Climate change has quickly become a reality and we are doing our part to reduce our organizational greenhouse gas emissions. The key areas that we have focused on include: Paper use Fully aware of the environmental impacts of paper production, we are committed to minimizing our impact on the world’s forests. This is why all of our member service information is available online, reducing the need for printed material. When paper use cannot be avoided, we use 100% post-consumer waste, FSC-certified, recycled paper for all printing and copying. We realize the importance of protecting endangered forests and their associated biodiversity, and are therefore committing ourselves to developing, implementing, and evolving a comprehensive paper policy. To do this, we are examining and improving our procurement, usage, and disposal methods by:Reducing the consumption of paper and paper products within our offices. Purchasing products that contain postconsumer recycled content if and when possible. Buying products that originate from sustainably managed forests and are certified by independent, third-party organizations Supporting cleaner production practices by selecting products that are processed without chlorine or chlorine compounds. Preference is also given to suppliers and manufacturers using renewable energy. Implementing and maintaining a recycling program to ensure that raw materials for producing recycled-content paper are readily available. Informing our members and stakeholders about our paper policy and practices and promoting responsible paper use when appropriate. To increase the demand and use of environmentally preferable paper, we will continue to work with other environmentally conscious organizations, suppliers, community members, and institutional purchasers.

Energy use With careful consideration in the machines and office equipment that we purchase, we have been able to reduce the energy that we use. Replacing our CRT monitors with LCD screens has already reduced the energy requirements of our IT infrastructure. As well, the majority of our current power is renewable energy.
Business travel When air travel cannot be avoided, we have offset these trips through the purchase of carbon credits. Community As we work towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2013, we also take part in supporting the sustainability goals of others. We support a wide range of community events and programs, both on and off campus.
