Eligibility

The Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) Health & Dental Plan is designed to provide full-time undergraduate students at the University of Toronto at Scarborough (UTSC) with extended medical and dental coverage, including but not limited to expenses not covered by their basic provincial health plan such as prescription drugs, health practitioners, medical equipment and more.

UTSC undergraduate students who are enrolled in a minimum of 1.5 full-course equivalents in either the Winter Session, and who have paid their SCSU fees are eligible to receive such coverage for a span of eight (8) months despite Academic Sessions only lasting an average of four (4) months.

Eligibility Restrictions

•
Part-time students are not covered by the SCSU Plan. If you are taking less than 1.5 credits in a Session you are considered a Part-time student and are part of the APUS Plan. Please refer to their website for more information: www.apus.utoronto.ca

•
Students who register and remain full-time undergraduate students in both the Fall and Winter Sessions are automatically eligible to receive SCSU health and dental coverage from September 1 until August 31 of the following academic year.

•
Students who register and remain full-time undergraduate students in January for the first time are eligible to receive SCSU health and dental coverage from January 1 until August 31 of that year.

•
Students who initially register as full-time students in the Winter Session but who become part-time students prior to the sessional deadline to have incidental fees refunded 100% are no longer eligible to receive SCSU health and dental coverage during the Winter Session.

•
Likewise, students who initially register as full-time students during the Fall Session, but who become part-time students prior to the sessional deadline to have incidental fees refunded 100%, will no longer retain SCSU health and dental coverage during that period.

•
Students who are covered under the SCSU Plan during the Fall Session but who have not paid SCSU society fees as a result of not being registered in courses during the Winter Session are only eligible to receive SCSU health and dental coverage until December 31.

•
Co-Op Students who are currently on a Work Term are considered by the University to be full-time students, but will not be charged incidental or society fees. Hence, they will not be covered under the SCSU Health & Dental Plan during the period in which they are on placement. Co-Op students on Work Session. However, they will have the option of self-enrolling in the Plan during the Change-of-Coverage Period in the Fall and Winter Sessions. In order to self-enrol, these students must pay an SCSU society fee.

•
Co-Op Students who are on work placement and who are also taking courses are not eligible to self-enrol.

• Co-Op students who are on a study term however, will be charged incidental and society fees based on their status as full-time or part-time students in the Fall and Winter Sessions.

•
Students who are classified by the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to have a disability for the purpose of receiving government financial assistance, do not retain this classification as it relates to the fees charged by the University of Toronto. In this regard, the University of Toronto makes no distinction due to disability, but rather assesses each student according to their status as a full-time or part-time student. Therefore in many cases, students with disabilities do not have sufficient extended health and dental coverage to meet their needs. Students with disabilities (as recognized and registered by Accessibility Services) will therefore have the option of self-enrolling in the Plan during the Change-of-Coverage Period in the Fall and Winter Sessions. In order to self-enrol, affected students must pay an SCSU society fee.
