Who's Covered?

All SFU undergraduate students who are registered for 3 or more credits in September or January at Burnaby, Surrey, or Vancouver campuses are automatically enrolled when paying fees to SFU. This includes international students, exchange or study abroad students, and Co-op students on exchange, and co-op students, when paying fees to SFU. If you’re not sure of your coverage status, check your SFU student account, or contact studentcare.net/works.

Please note that students and their dependants are not covered for out-of-province or out-of-country emergency services once they reach age 65. For more details, contact studentcare.net/works.

Coverage for Your Spouse and Your Dependants
You can extend your coverage to your family (spouse and/or dependants) by enrolling them in the Plan and paying an additional fee, over and above your individual fee as a Plan member. Common law and same-sex couples are eligible. See the Couple & Family Enrolments section for details.

Who’s Not Covered?

• Students beginning their academic year in May are not automatically enrolled, but have the option to enrol by contacting studentcare.net/works or by filling in and following the instructions on the self-enrolment form available in the Download Centre (see right-hand menu).

•
Students registered exclusively in Distance Education or programs based outside the Lower Mainland and students enrolled in the Professional Development Program (PDP) who were registered as off-campus are not automatically covered, but they can enrol themselves during the Change-of-Coverage Period.

• Students registered in Continuing Education and non-credit programs are not eligible for enrolment.

• Students studying on exchange or Co-op, but who are paying fees to their home institution, and auditing students are not eligible for enrolment.

• Please note that graduate students are covered under their own, separate Grad Benefit Plan. Click here for more information.
