Who's Covered?

All full-time students who are members of the SCSU are automatically covered except Co-op students on Fall Work Session. Co-op students on Fall Work Term should review the self-enrolment section for information on how to enrol. Fall Session students are covered for 4 months from Sept. 1 - Dec. 31. Winter Session students are covered from Jan. 1 - Aug.  31. If you graduate in the Fall Session, your coverage will end on Dec. 31. Refer to the chart below for the coverage period of each Session.

For a more detailed list of eligibility restrictions and for important Plan dates, refer to the Eligibility Restrictions section.

Please note that students and their dependants are not covered for out-of-province or out-of-country emergency services once they reach age 65. For more details, contact studentcare.net/works.

Coverage for Your Spouse and Your Dependants
You can extend your coverage to your family (spouse and/or dependants) by enrolling them in the Plan and paying an additional fee, over and above your individual fee as a Plan member. Common law and same-sex couples are eligible. See the Couple & Family Enrolments section for more information.

Who’s Not Covered?

Co-op students on Work Session are not automatically covered, but may enrol themselves by picking up an enrolment form at their respective Co-op office, completing it, and returning it to the SCSU Office. See the Self Enrolment section for more information.

Part-time students with a verified disability are not automatically covered, but may enrol themselves by completing an enrolment form at the SCSU Office and having their family doctor complete a disability waiver. See the Self Enrolment section for more information.

Part-time students, graduate students and students on exchange from another university are not covered and may not enrol in the Plan.

For a more detailed list of eligibility restrictions and for important Plan dates, refer to the Eligibility Restrictions section.

Only SCSU members may enrol themselves and their spouse/dependants in the SCSU Health & Dental Plan. If you’re not sure of your coverage status, please contact studentcare.net/works.
